Leading Lithuanian businesses, such as mobile telecommunications company Omnitel, fixed telecommunications company TEO LT (former Lietuvos Telekomas), largest banks Swedbank (former Hansabankas) and SEB (former Vilniaus bankas), as well as the largest Lithuanian IT companies Alna and ATEA (former Sonex Co.), came together and in May 2002 formed Langas į ateitį (Window to the Future) alliance.
This alliance started a unique project aimed at businesses supporting the development of the information society in Lithuania.
As well as the founders of the alliance and the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, Langas į ateitį integrates the following companies as partners: Microsoft Lietuva, DnB Nord Bank, lawyer's firm Lideika, Petrauskas, Valiūnas ir partneriai/LAWIN, public relations company PR Service/Edelman Affiliate, the Institute of Public Policy and Management.
The mission of the Langas į ateitį alliance is to promote the use of Internet and e-Services in Lithuania and hereby stimulate the growth of living standard as well as Lithuania’s competitiveness among European and other countries of the world.
Langas į ateitį implements projects in three main fields of activities:
- Establishment of Public internet access points (PIAPs)
- Training of the population to use information technologies
- Encouragement to develop and use e-services
